Biography:
Like many of the current teachers, Asuma himself is a graduate of Shodai Academy. Though he graduated more than a decade ago, he still holds close relationships with several of his old classmates, namely Yuuhi Kurenai and Hatake Kakashi. The three of them had been a close-knit group back in their high school days, and they still swap ‘remember when’ stories from the zenith of their notoriety. If he knew, Naruto would be shocked beyond all mortal reason that Assuma the Stickler was actually quite the prankster in his day.
As the hopelessly clichéd adage goes, though, there is more to this monkey than meets the eye. Sarutobi Asuma is one of the few Shodai teachers who actually wanted to be a teacher, and who holds a double Master’s in Japanese History and Neoclassical to Post-Modern literature. On the surface level, Asuma is a drawling, grammatically-challenged crab of a man who spends too much time smoking in nothing but his boxers. Only very few people know him to be anything otherwise.
The sticky truth of the matter is that Asuma actually loves teaching and reads high literature extensively, but nothing short of pain of death will get him to admit to either. If asked, he only became a teacher because it was what his late mother wanted, and he only got that second master’s because chicks dig guys who’ve got big books.
Not that he knows from experience, of course. Asuma hasn’t dated in over four years, since his long-time girlfriend, Uzuki Yuugao, left him for largely justified reasons (he got her pregnant, she thought he was a sorry bastard...it happens). He had been trying to work up the courage to propose to her, and so, crushed, Asuma has since sworn off dating, despite harboring romantic feelings towards one or more of his colleges at Shodai…
